Koh Sichang island was used to belong to Thai Royal before it has become a tourist destination nowaday. This island might be the closest island to Bangkok, about 2 hours driving from town.
Koh Sichang is 8 square kilometers but there are enough material facilities including school, kindergarten, hospital and markets. But also, a lot of tourists go here every weekend.
There are not much trees in the big garden of palace, so I recommend bring water, hat and neccessary belongings with you, especially in summer days. Good health goes along with enjoyment anywhere you go.
In golden age, the palace has 4 villas, 14 halls and 1 magnificent pavilion surrounded by landscape gardens, small ponds, walkpaths and beautiful private beach.
However, since the conflict had happened between France and Thailand, the King decided to move palace to Bangkok where now is known Vimanmek Mansion - the largest teakwood building in the world.
There are still the constructions in the palace for visitors and local villagers.
From behind where I stand that was a huge palace, but still you can see the foundation of the old palace.
It is possible spending half day walking around the gardens and exploring many places in Palace area such as Bell Stone, Wat Asdangkhanimitir or Khao Noi View Point.
Walking on the paths can makes you tired under the sunny sky and without shadow of tree. So again, bring water and hat or anything can save you.
Bell Stone is a natural rock that looks like a frog. People say if you hit the Bell Stone with a rock, you might hear the sound as a bell. I am not sure about that because I tried many times without result but my friend made it. Lucky him.
From Bell Stone, there is Wat Asdangkhanimitir, just follow the path and direction.
After exploring Palace area, take a rest on the benchs next to the beach and feel the salty wind. Remember don't swim there. I don't think we are allowed swim there, it may be dangerous with rock and sharpen shells under the sea surface.
Hope you have a nice trip.
Cheers!
